A CAMPUS SIX CONSPECTUS

In 1964 the University Jazz Band was fortunate in securing the fine Adelaide trumpeter Bill Munro as its lead player. After some further changes, the band emerged as the Campus Six, performing regularly for more than a decade in clubs, hotels, at concerts and special events, and on local radio and television. From early on the Campus Six developed its own style, influenced by the jazz tradition and based on emphatic collective and individual improvisation by band members within a predetermined conceptual framework.

This Conspectus gives an aural impression of the band between 1965 and 1973, notwithstanding some variations in personnel, captures its distinctive sound and approach to the repertoire, covering moods ranging from the rollicking to the reflective.
