Feeling Good - A Tribute to The Jazz Messengers
This group of young South
Australian musicians was convened for this special project as a result of
having been previously seen by members of the SA Jazz Archive
committee in an outstanding concert performance of Art Blakey's music in
2005. At that time, the decision was made that the band should be recorded
for the Archive’s second CD of contemporary bands. All tunes on this
recording, bar one, are by American composers. The exception is the final
track, by the Australian reed player. Dale Barlow.
Patrick Thiele - trumpet; Jonathon Hunt - alto sax; Stuart Earl - tenor sax;
Jonathon Rouse - keyboard; Sam Zerna - acoustic bass; Jarrad Payne - drums.
In 2005. SAJA applied for a Grant from Australia Council of the Arts,
to cover the cost of producing two CD’s by different groups of musicians
with a ‘Then and Now’ theme, to be promoted by a concert featuring the
musicians on the recordings.
The Grant was approved and is hereby acknowledged.
