Big Band Blast A concert to feature the best of South Australian Secondary School Students including 2008 awarding winning bands, Prince Alfred College and Woodville High. The festival will culminate with a performance by the JazzSA Superband, an ensemble whose members are nominated by directors and directed by Mike Stewart. Invited schools include Marryatville High, Rostrevor College, St Peters College, Woodville High, Concordia College, Immanuel College, Wilderness School and Prince Alfred College. |
Andy Bevan Quintet Andy Bevan is an international jazz musician of the highest standard. When not performing in Tokyo (his home of 12 years) Andy is performing with his ensemble around the world. He will perform with Tim Bennet – bass, Josh Bennet - tabla, Richard Chew – piano, Jarrad Payne - drums. |

Artist in Residence Sept 21,22,23 @ The Promethean, 8pm - $15/10 Best New Music winner at 2007 Adelaide Fringe Awards, Adam will premieré and develop new works inspired by his travels around the world from the Pacific Islands to Moscow with special guests Hugh Stuckey - guitar and Cameron Undy – bass. Also featuring Adam Page – saxes, Nick Mulder – trombone, Shane Ellery – keyboards, Hugh Harvey – drums. |

Chandrakant Dr. Chandrakant Sardeshmukh is an accomplished sitar player, being a senior disciple of Pt. Ravishankar and Mrs. Annapurnadevi. He has performed throughout Germany, Australia, Japan and America. Chandrakant will perform with local musicians in a unique performance that bridges two great improvisational art forms, Indian classical music and jazz. Young Composers Competition This event is an opportunity for young jazz composers (under 25) to showcase new works in a concert environment. The winning three entries are awarded prize money of $300, $200, $100 respectively. Ted Nettelbeck – piano, Peter Dowdall – bass, Ben Todd – drums, Tom Pulford – sax, will perform all compositions. Innovative original music that stretches the boundaries of contemporary jazz while retaining a strong sense of form and melody. Drawing on the harmonies and textures of the European style of jazz as well as South American rhythms, this music is a captivating and unique blend of styles, sounds and songs. |
Artist in Residence This new initiative is to
encourage and improve jazz ensemble playing in South Australia. This year
two artists have been selected to develop a "band sound" in a developmental
workshop. The informed performances are designed to be a rehearsal where new
